Is your child having a difficult time connecting with a therapist?
Many children and adolescents have a hard time expressing their emotions verbally in traditional talk therapy.  Music Based Therapy (MBT), has been designed and created by Jim Anderson, MFT to reach children and adolescents who have difficulty connecting or making gains in traditional talk therapy.

At its very core, Jim's approach to counseling combines music based interventions along with psychological, emotional, physical, and social aspects to provide clients with positive experiences, new skill sets, and better problem solving abilities.  Playing an instrument or writing song lyrics is an imaginative process where insights can be drawn upon to jump-start psychotherapy treatment.  Treatment is based on starting where the child is at, and then gradually beginning to move them towards exploring more difficult issues.

Why Music Based Therapy?
A multitude of qualitative and quantitative research studies have been conducted documenting the positive effects music therapy has with children, including increased cognitive functioning, focus, self-esteem, group cohesion and mastery.  Other gains noted include decreases in negative symptoms such as anxiety, anger and depression.  Clinical case studies have also shown music therapy to aid in the treatment of substance abuse, ADHD, anger management and impulse control problems.
